Bird of Prey Statue – Roman Villas of Carthage

This weathered stone sculpture, found among the Roman villas of Carthage, depicts a bird of prey with folded wings and a curved beak — likely an eagle. In Roman culture, the eagle was a powerful symbol of strength, divinity, and the authority of the empire.

Though time has softened many of the details, the form is still recognizable. Statues like this once adorned the luxurious domestic spaces of Carthage, reflecting both artistic refinement and symbolic meaning.
