Statue Fragment – Roman Villas of Carthage

This marble torso, discovered among the Roman villas of Carthage, shows the remains of a draped statue. Although the head and lower body are missing, the folds of the garment remain visible, reflecting the elegance and craftsmanship of Roman sculptors. Statues like this often adorned private residences and gardens of the wealthy elite in Carthage, serving both decorative and symbolic purposes.

The Roman villas, located near the ancient city center, reveal how Carthage flourished as a prosperous colony of Rome after the Punic Wars. This fragment is a reminder of the domestic luxury and artistic culture that once filled these spaces.
