This intricately carved niche belongs to the prayer hall of the 18th-century Madrasa Al-Bachia, founded in 1752 during the reign of Ali Pasha II. The niche, framed in black-et-white ablaq stonework, features a scalloped half-dome shell motif, symbolizing the heavens. Surrounding geometric patterns et decorative tiles reflect the refined artistry of Husainid-era craftsmanship in the Médina de Tunis. Madrasas such as Al-Bachia served both as centers of higher learning et places of devotion, embedding themselves deeply into the city’s intellectual et spiritual life.
