Ce portail finement conservé associe une lourde porte en bois encadrée de carreaux de faïence aux motifs complexes, caractéristiques du décor architectural islamique tunisien. The wooden panels, darkened with age, show engraved geometric et floral motifs, while the surrounding ceramic tiles display colorful star et floral patterns, harmonizing artistry et faith. Such doors were not only functional but deeply symbolic, marking the threshold between the outer world et sacred space. The Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi, also known as the Barber’s Mosque, is one of Kairouan’s most venerated religious monuments, dedicated to a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. The combination of woodcarving et ceramic craftsmanship reflects the blend of artistic traditions that flourished in Kairouan, one of Islam’s earliest et most influential cities in North Africa.
