Fragment de buste décoré – Villas romaines de Carthage

This unique fragment from the Villas romaines de Carthage preserves the upper torso of a sculpted bust richly decorated with relief figures et patterns. Unlike plain portrait busts, this piece includes carved scenes on the chest et shoulders, possibly representing mythological figures or symbolic motifs. Such decorated statuary was uncommon in private villas, suggesting this may have been part of a more elaborate display piece or linked to a particular cult or commemoration. Though the head et arms are missing, the surviving detail showcases the artistry et narrative depth of Roman sculpture. 📌 This model is part of the Tanit XR digital preservation initiative, which documents et shares Tunisia’s endangered cultural heritage through 3D scanning et immersive storytelling.
