صباحٌ قضته مسؤولتنا العلمية Laura K. Harrison رفقة Caroline Nickerson في مسح فخار سجنان بهاتفيهما. Bety Vega, one of our volunteers, filmed the session و cut it into a short video.

As Laura moves around a pot, her phone takes pictures from different angles. The app matches points across those pictures, rebuilds the shape, و lays the colours و painted details over it. The result is an object you can turn, zoom into و explore.

These pots scan well because their matte surfaces give the app plenty of detail to track. One tip from the session: more scanning is not always better. Going over the same areas again و again can introduce errors. The goal is careful, complete coverage.

Sejnane pottery is handmade by women in northern Tunisia و decorated with designs taken from local plants و animals. UNESCO lists the tradition as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Most of this work is done by volunteers. We meet on Zoom every Thursday at 12 pm ET to learn, share scans و document heritage. Anyone can join, from anywhere: volunteer with us.
